Day 53

Day 53 Surfers

Well we had a great night last night with Belinda, Dennis, Sophia and Adrian. It is great to see familiar faces and catch up on the gossip that we usually get a little second and third hand. Belinda was gracious enough to ask us to stay at her house but it was too much to get all my paraphernalia out of the van and into the house, attractive as the offer was. They have now packed up and gone camping with the kids so we wish them luck and hope the kids enjoy.

Beach

Beach
Today we headed into town. We wanted to see the beaches and in particular Kurrawa Beach. This was where the national Surf Life Saving Australia championships were held for many years. They apparently set up TV cables and power units to cater for the coverage and in response SLSA said they would hold it there for X number of years. Before that it was held somewhere different every year and there was a bit of grumbling going on and arguments over funding for assistance etc that was never settled. Well it has all expired now and it is back to the different locations every year again.

On the starting Grid
We got out the GPS (SWMABO) out and typed in the nearest Starbucks to the beach and headed off. On the way in we started driving over these lines on the road with numbers next to them, I suddenly recognised what they were, they are starting positions for the V8 Supercars. Naturally I made my way up to number 1 on the grid and waited for the lights to change and when they did I was off the grid in a cloud of smoking tyres and beat the other guy to the first corner! I must admit i felt a little let down by the pit crew who were advising me to slow down or grow up or bath, no spark of competition. We

parked on the foreshore and unleashed the Beast and headed off along the paths. The beach reminds me of Sorrento or Floreat beach and there are Surf Clubs every kilometre or two. We made our way down the beach and then crossed over to the shops for a little retail therapy for Maureen then lunch in a little Irish Pub. After lunch, we made our way to Kurrawa beach and had a quick look and then it was back to

Kurrawa
Trude and then back to Girt. A quiet afternoon followed and we ended up going to a shop to get some glue. The little rail in front of the microwave that holds it in has come unstuck and needs repair and Bob, I mean Maureen the Builder is on a mission.

Farewell Kurrawa

Kurrawa
We are going to have an early night, or so my copy of the plan says, I am not sure what Maureen’s says as I am still waiting for my cup of tea promised 20 minutes ago, just before Maureen got on Facebook! Following this early night we want to get up early about 7:30 and have a quick swim before going to Movie World – 2 Kms from here.
