Day 59

Day 59 Kimba

The start of the vines Barossa

Workers having lunch
According to the town’s claim to fame, we are halfway across Australia. We got up in sleepy Renmark and were on the road by 8am. We headed west with the aim of Port Augusta, but we toddled along with a pit stop every 2 hours and found ourselves in Kimba around 4:30, about 640kms later.

wind farms
The driving was easier once we were out of the hills so no major issues. We decided this time to stick to the main highway although it was longer as the roads were better and so it was. The days are very hot with 42 degrees today, you had to keep moving as the car was getting hot if you slowed up or waited, not worryingly, but enough to make you notice. Once we hit the coast road we came upon mile after mile of windfarms. I am sure they were not there 2 years ago, but there are seemingly 100’s of them. So we should know soon how effective they are as an alternative.

Rush hour Kimba
We are sitting in the van with the aircon on and planning tomorrows trip – ahhh, let’s go west. Good idea. Problem solved. No idea how far we will go, it really will depend on the conditions of road and temperature. We are both in the mindset of getting home and to date the driving has not been too arduous on either of us, particularly as Maureen is now wearing here sunglasses and her eyes are not getting so much glare. I also learnt a good lesson
Going west
today. When you drive along bare foot in the airconditioning and stop for, shall we say a pit stop to relieve the built up hydraulic pressure, put your damn shoes back on before you get out onto hot bitumen. I am sure it was funny to watch as I hit the road in bare feet and could not jump around or do much of anything fast as I tried to get back into the car whilst listening to my feet sizzle. Thank god you can direct the air onto your feet. The car had a definite smell of roast pork for a while.
